Michael S. Warren
is a staff member in the Theoretical Astrophysics Group at Los Alamos National
Laboratory. He holds a Ph.D. (1994) in
physics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a B.S.
in physics and B.S. in engineering and applied science from the
California Institute of Technology (1988). His research in
computational astrophysics extends from modeling the behavior of
supernova explosions to understanding the structure and evolution of
the universe. Warren has been a frequent user of many of the fastest
parallel machines in the world for the past 15 years. He is a
four-time winner of the Gordon Bell prize for significant achievement
in parallel processing (1998, 1997 [two], and 1992), and the co-winner
